
Beautiful late
19th - early 20th century print by French artist Pierre Puvis de
Chavannes (1824-1898) entitled Saint Geneviève, sustained by her pious
concern on the sleeping town, 1898, after the fresco at the Pantheon in
Paris.
The print surrounded by a foliate border accented with gilt monos’ SG’, all mounted in its original water gilded and hand painted frame also with foliate border. Museum mounted with museum glass.
Pierre Puvis de Chavannes was the foremost French mural painter of the second half of the 19th century, decorating many public buildings in France including the Panthéon in Paris (which was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve).
