
Rococo-style, Bronze-dore Clock
Maker (stamped) “Raulin Paris” and “silver medal” (on the obverse of the dial)
French, 19th century
Of monumental triangular form and elaborate rococo design, the structure made up of numerous castings each piece inscribed with maker’s marks, finely chased, circular dial with enamel numerals, surrounded by a substantial acanthus leaf frame-work rising to a crest supporting two putti embracing beneath an leafy canopy, flanking the sides floral swags connect the upper-section of the work to a lower comprising a leaf and shell encrusted bocage with two reclining female figures flanked by attendant putti riding dolphins, the whole raised on an undulating, chased and pierced base with a centrally placed ‘grotesque’ lion-form mask-head draped by floral swags, and acanthus leaf ‘feet’.
