This magnificent heirloom Afternoon Tea Tablecloth was presented as a Wedding gift to her Majesty Queen Louise of Denmark & his Majesty King Frederik the VIII on their marriage in 1869.
The Queen was born October 31, 1851 at the Royal Castle in Stockholm, Sweden. His Majesty King Frederik the VIII was born June 3rd, 1843, at the Royal Palace in Copenhagen, Demark. They married July 28th 1869, at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden.
Six women worked three years to complete the cloth which is crocheted in the "Hedebo" stitch, a Danish specialty. The designs on the cloth represent the close relationship of Demark and Sweden as Queen Louise was Swedish born. The cloth displays the Kings motto in Latin "For my God and my Country" in several places, as well as a large "L" for Louise and her 3 crowns and the Queen Crown. Also three Danish Lions, three Swedish crowns and two town crests with respective Danish and Swedish Flags.
